Bungalow for a Private Client 2
Constructed in the late August of the year 2006, this bungalow becomes a prime example of architecture for satisfied client. A design with zero complaints, recommendations about beautiful journey and experience spent in the past sixteen years. The majestic view of the bungalow from the street steals our attention at the first glance.
The main gate opens into a green lawn transitioning from public to semi-private to private spaces, leading towards the very drawing room, kitchen and dining segregated from bedrooms by an expansive open tv lounge (sitting area). The staircase to the first floor follows the same zoning plan but with a gigantic projected terrace.
The parallel massing according to the zoning paves way for a vertical green passage connecting the lawn decorated with plants, upwards to the terrace on the roof floor that is wrapped with creepers. The lawn is enhanced by the curve traveling vertically creating a flow of motion cut off by a jutting 20’-0” cantilevered terrace on the rooftop which overcomes structural standards, becoming a place for recreation and reflection. The part of the house most loved by the occupants.
When asked about the favourite spots in the house that the client would like to adapt in their new place too, the living room followed by the terrace were their favourite places in the house. “The living room unites the whole place, becoming the core and interconnecting other zones of the house. We love
spending time on the terrace as it gives us a peaceful refuge from our daily lives.”
The place, specifically designed for joint family shows variation of functions throughout the house maintaining the privacy of the occupants but also allowing them to come together at a lively space provided at certain junctions in the bungalow.
The plot is open from two sides (front and left), south and west respectively, allowing ample amount of light and air circulation throughout the house due to the west facing living rooms on the ground and first floor. Hence, the terrace gives views of both streets.
The play of materials creates visual as well as physical contrast to touch. The rough texture of brick is smoothened by the soft white paint and refreshing green splash of natural elements, complimenting and adding to the beauty of each other.
