Building Block School

An addition-alteration project, this school which was previously a residential unit is situated in Bahadurabad K.D.A. At G+1, the rooftop is also converted to classrooms, making it G+2. The ground floor is zoned with the admin and visiting activities as well as nursery classrooms while the first floor allows KG classes. Since the originally of the building arrived from bungalow, it has plush green lawns which become a value addition for the nursery and KG kids, enabling them to carry out playground activities. The L shaped planning of the building allows the stairs to be at the junction of this shape, straight up from the entryway so as to make easy access and circulation all the while dividing the admin and nursery section.

The encaptivating façade of the building introduces itself to be that of a school. The existing balconies are enclosed in abstract designed cages, protruding from the actual massing that is derived from the planning. These abstract balconies, along with the play of colorful, straight and curved louvers, hanging planters and colored massing at entrance come together to create an impactful complimenting elevation.
