Residence Bungalow at Clifton Block 5

Constructed in early 2011, this bungalow is a witness to tragic incident and heavy emotions just after it came to existence. The entrance splits into lustrous lawn with a grand porch that can host up to three vehicles. The plot is a 550 sq.yards area with beautifully built ground and first floor.

The zoning is an integral part of the planning. A good example of semi-private, private, and public spaces, the transitioning among the three zones can be easily perceived in the planning. With the lobby opening into the lounge and fancy kitchen which being a semi-private area becomes a barrier between the drawing room (a public zone) and the bedroom and greasy kitchen (private areas). Another lawn is designed in alignment with the lounge making it again a semi private area reserved just for the family members. The first floor accessed by the stairs in the lobby encompasses a whole private zone with three bedrooms along with a separate lounge and terrace that is a 6 feet cantilever
covering a portion of the lawn all the while looking over it vertically connecting to the natural aspect of the landscape on the ground floor. The terrace shows the play of open and covered areas while the covered terrace is sheltered by the wooden ribs casting broken shadows on the seating area. The covered terrace then transitions into an open terrace with a small balcony breaking the monotony having the same function but enclosed in the terrace.

The solids and voids in the elevation are treated by filling the blank spaces at intervals with wooden ribs in the form of jali that also enhances the verticality of the form. The simplicity of the form is its character played by interesting elements of material used on a plain white surface such as stone cladding on the balcony contrasting with the overall open terrace. The green lush lawns and the flower bed outside the boundary wall makes you want to stand and stare. The boundary wall also adopts the pattern of vertical grooves from the vertical ribs used
on the terrace.
